Jim Minerich

I was born and raised on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota. As a young boy, waterfowl hunting became my passion. I would strap a dozen cedar block duck decoys and my trusty 16 gauge single shot to the back of my 60cc trail bike and off I would go to every slew, pond, or wild rice bed in search of ducks. My father taught me deer hunting in the big woods and I remember sitting in the deer stand day dreaming about ducks and geese while listening to the whistling of goldeneyes leaving ice choked lakes.

Canadian geese were a rarity in the wooded forests of northern Minnesota but once in awhile a wild rice bed would attract a few wild geese. I remember shooting my first wild goose and proudly displaying the entire roll of photos and the goose's head for many months.

After graduating from high school and college, while still chasing waterfowl I began a career as an elementary teacher and fishing guide. I married a beautiful woman named Sara and soon had two great children. After a very rewarding teaching career that lasted 34 years, with additional time spent giving science/training seminars for the Minnesota Department of Education, I retired from education.

Since the days of packing cedar duck decoys and paper mache goose decoys, I now have trailers full of goose and duck equipment. My passion is hunting geese! I spend considerable time in Canada and the United States. I'm helping a Canadian friend book Canadian Goose Hunts. This friend is a local farmer and has access to hundreds of acres of prime goose hunting fields.
