John McNamara

John became interested in hunting at an early age, thanks to his dad for introducing him and taking him out for his first hunt. John grew up in Plymouth, Michigan but has hunted all over the state. He currently lives in Howell, Michigan. He hunts just about everything from nice whitetails to Michigan Black Bear and recently went on a trip to Scotland and shot a Red Stag and a couple of Roe Deer, but birds are his passion. It’s hard to beat the fun of fooling a nice long beard in the spring. John was introduced to water fowl hunting about 20 years ago and has taken the sport to a new level, from scouting birds, to timing their arrivals and departures. He has prided himself on finding the field with the “X” on it. Most of his hunting is field hunting for geese and ducks. John is very passionate about out door conservation and has recently gotten involved in goose banding. He also enjoys introducing the outdoors and hunting to our youths and thinks it’s great to see a smile on a child’s face when they shoot their first bird. He really enjoys the camaraderie of the sport. He says that it’s awesome to be out with 3 or 4 of your buddies and “high fiving” each other when big birds are pounding the ground. John went from using silhouettes and shells to Dakota decoys that we hunt over now. John really enjoys talking to other hunters and is always looking to improve his techniques and feels there is always something to be learned about water fowl hunting. John is a member of Mossy Oaks Pro Staff, Lynch Mob Field Staff and now is a proud member of Dakota Decoys Field Staff.
