Nick Johnson
I was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota where I grew up around a family that
loved the outdoors. When I was little, my parents and I moved to Fort Dodge,
Iowa, the place where I started my hunting career. I grew up hunting
pheasants and fell into hunting waterfowl after high school when I was
invited on a hunt for teal in September by a fellow coworker. It is now my
most avid passion and I devote much of my time each fall and winter chasing
after the migration. Some of my favorite waterfowl species to hunt include
the various kinds of diving ducks. The thrill of fast shooting, big spreads,
and big water is something that I find most fascinating and challenging.
Here in Iowa, field hunting for honkers is king and I do a fair amount of
that as well. Especially late in the season after duck closes and all the
little ponds and potholes are frozen up. Any way you look at it,
waterfowling gets my blood running and I am fortunate to have friends and
family members to enjoy it with who are as passionate about it as I am. I am
currently attending Iowa State University for a bachelor’s degree in
Fisheries Management. Someday I hope to use my skills as a sportsman and a
videographer, as well as my schooling towards a career in the hunting and
fishing industry.
