I was brought into the outdoor world when I was 4 yrs old. My family goes up to Lynn Lake, Manitoba every year. We pick a lake on a map and fly a float plane in the bush to fish it for a week or two. At 5yrs old the pilot was really worried about me and tried giving my grandfather a satellite phone, my grandfather laughed and said I did fine last year. The same year he took me pheasant hunting, I loved it. Snow rain or shine we would go 3 days a week, when I wasn’t in school. We hunt all wild birds and hunted about 10,000 acres. He taught me how to scout and get permission with the landowners. When I was 12 years old I graduated from a 410 single shot to a 12 gauge auto. Living on the south side of Chicago we would drive about 3 hours to go waterfowl hunting a couple times a year. Something about it was fascinating to me. Playing with the calls, talking to the birds and they would talk back. My first Canada goose was banded. From that moment on I knew I was hooked on waterfowl, but never had anywhere to go until I was about 16. I moved 100 miles south of Chicago where I would be able to hunt everyday if I wanted to. A guy I worked with asked me if I wanted to go on a goose hunt of course I jumped on the chance. We shot a limit in about 20 min. From that moment on I gave up pheasants and started learning waterfowl. Now I hunt about 10,000 acres in 5 counties for waterfowl and hunt 5 days a week. I also never stop scouting, and spend almost every min thinking about waterfowl hunting. I am very excited to be apart of Dakota decoys and hope to see you in the field or at a show soon.
